Renovation inspiration
Oh hello!
As some of you may have seen on my Instagram, we have been in home renovations for what seems like a life time ( no joke it has been more than 480 days, Bye Felicia, somehow I am still standing). Like most things in life, this process has been quite the teaching experience. I have learned and relearned patience, acceptance, and deep gratitude day after day. And though this process has been 1-800-insanity, most likely, when my little ones are all grown up, I will look back upon this time of chaos, and miss being cramped all together, playing and snuggling in a tiny space filled with love and a bit of clutter.
Let’s take it back to the beginning… To a time where Corona was only referenced when served with a lime…Fall 2019: I just found I was pregnant with my second child, and knew that if we were going to stay in our two bedroom house with two kids and my growing business, we would need a bit more space. So we moved quickly and by February 2020, we had architectural drawings drawn up to add a primary bedroom and fitness/voice over/work studio ( for those of you that don’t know I am currently on an animated series called The Croods Family Tree on HULU and Peacock. CHECK IT OUT!!). We were on track finish our renovations in Summer 2020…around the time when baby number two would arrive.
And then…the pandemic hit and everything….. the world … our construction… seeing faces… all came to a long screeching halt. I won’t get into the details of why everything took so long, but let’s just say we hit a weird string of obstacles that continued to hold us up.
So cut to today: that growing baby? That’s now Lennon who’s a year and two months. We are still in a pandemic, I am still training clients on Zoom in my living room (tho I see a few of the vaccinated ones in person) and we are STILL very much in renovations. And yes, I acknowledge this is one of the biggest first world problems to have. We have been so incredible lucky to have remained healthy and employed over the past two years. And we are very lucky to have Jamie’s dad as a contractor with all of his incredible connections and help. We are beyond grateful to have given birth to a beautiful, healthy and vibrant little boy where we financially have the option to make more room for him. But guys, this has been (as I say to Ellie) A REAL KAPLOOMER. Living in a construction zone is quite unsettling- it’s like moving ALL THE TIME. Feeling upside-down in our house during such an unstable time has been taken a toll on the family. I mean just ask my four year old, Ellie, who a few months ago told me she doesn’t want to live here anymore and wants a new house because this one is too chaotic (truly the last thing a mama wants to hear).
One way I’ve kept the renovations exhaustion away and stayed in gratitude for all that we do have, has been by finding inspiration and doing some deep diving into designers and design inspiration for our new space. This has been one of the great gifts of the process, coupled with the fact that my hubs Jamie Davis IS Portola Paints (more on that coming soon, but in the mean time check out their instagram if you want some SERIOUS paint/design swoon). Imagining what our new space will look and feel like has kept me excited and in good spirits. So as we inch closer to completion, I wanted to share some of the designers and accounts I find inspiring, chic and homie. And soon I will share paint tips, decor picks and of course organization tips ( Ellie told me yesterday “Just call me Marie Kondo mama” .. ummmmm WITH PLEASURE!!!).
I can’t wait to show you how our space turns out! Now go take a big deep breath ( for all of us) and think of three things you are grateful for. I start and end my day with this same exercise, and it helps so much. Peace and love always.
