Finding Joy In Healthy Habits
Hi Friends,
Happy New Year! Hope you had a fabulous, rejuvinating holiday doing whatever lights you up. For me, it was slowing down and being cozy with my family and taking time to reflect on the year. I’m often asked about new year resolutions, and though it’s a personal relationship everyone has with that fresh start energy — for me, it’s all about the practice of layering in gentle, achievable habits that may not feel as noticeable at first, but lead to those long-lasting results we all desire. The unwanted pressure or any feelings of guilt/shame if a resolution isn’t reached isn’t as sexy as slowly building a holistic, mindful relationship towards our bodies and lifelong good health.
For me, creating a healthy life means finding radical self love through seemingly simple, yet highly feasible acts of self care that FEEL GOOD so I can easily implement them into my routine. Whether it's moving my body to one of my favorite pop songs, or nourishing myself with delicious food that sustains my energy, or pausing for 5 minutes amidst the spinning plates of life to have an intentional moment of inward reflection— these acts of love and self care help me be a better me.
I’ve also been meditating on what I can let go of in 2023, because ultimately keeping anything around that doesn’t feel good is subtracting a part of myself that feels “friction” with what isn’t aligned. As mentioned in my last post, my natural instinct is to overcommit, but in the spirit of allowing things to be easier this year, I realize I can delegate, let go and trust that it’s okay to ask for help. Intuitively listening to what my body is telling me is the first step, and the second is not overriding my needs with the unloving demand that I gotta do it all.
On the topic of “friction” as obstacles to healthy choices, check out my Q&A on the Broc Shot blog about creating achievable, sustainable habits that lead to life-long changes vs the “all gas/no brakes” resolutions our culture likes to push. In my experience, the key ingredient to creating healthy habits is JOY. If you make it enjoyable, it becomes easier to say YES. Achievable, loving, feel-good practices are what fuel the engine towards my dreams, goals, and desires for the new year.
Invest in yourself in order to #beyourbestself in 2023. You got this!
Xoxo, Amy
